cid avagnar

♂ · elezen · around 27 years old · duskwight · aether/sargatanas
A serious man with deeply held convictions about goodness in the world.
backstory
Born to a Duskwight mother who dallied with officers of the Garlean Empire as they conquered Ala Mhigo. When he was born, she believed him to be half-Garlean (and gave him a Garlean name to lend a truthful aura to her claims of parentage, in hopes of securing stable housing and income). In reality, his father was one of the other Duskwights in his family group/commune, a close-knit band that lived in the eastern part of the Twelveswood and shared their burdens in penury. Cid was raised by many women in the commune (including his mother), but his talent for Hearing went unnoticed.
Shortly before the Calamity, his mother and father left him with an Ala Mhigan named Ranulf Heinwald, who had fled the Empire years before and become a woodcutter in the Shroud. At Ranulf's insistence, Cid shed his Duskwight family name. Cid became his errand boy and helper around the small cabin in the Twelveswood. According to the voices in his head, Cid would mark out trees to be cut down; his approach minimized their woodsin and kept them safe from elemental wrath so far from Gridania proper. Ranulf noticed how quiet Cid was, and when the Padjal traveled through looking for Hearers, Cid was marked as a potential candidate for a future in conjury.
After the Calamity, Cid's talent for conjury blossomed, possibly due to an accident with Ranulf and a heavy axe. Recognizing that Cid's talent could make him useful to others, Ranulf reluctantly contacted Stillglade Fane and Cid was evaluated. His ability to Hear was weak, but he possessed great potential as a conjurer. When given the chance to leave and study conjury, Cid put it off as long as he could, but Ranulf insisted that he go into the world and make something of himself. Cid still considers Ranulf his greatest benefactor and visits him regularly. He lost contact with his family group after the Calamity; they were believed to have passed into Thanalan. After the destruction of the Ultima Weapon, the Twin Adder and Camp Dragonhead collaborated and located Cid's family group, near Coerthas. But when he found them, only a few original members remained. None of them could say what became of the rest.
npc relationships
A very serious romantic relationship with Haurchefant Greystone.A "romantic" (but ephemeral) relationship with Zenos yae Galvus that is complicated, due to unique interactions between them that Zenos himself instigated. He has never told anyone about this experience and will not engage in conversation about it.A fast friendship with Moenbryda.A feeling of kindred souls with Minfilia. An understanding with Gosetsu, whose radical acceptance was a balm to Cid's heart.A mentor's relationship with Ryne.
player relationships
Yurukhan Avagnar (Sargatanas) is a Xaela warrior with a well-earned hatred for Ishgard. Against his better judgement, he answered the call to restore the Firmament. There, he locked eyes with Cid during a celebratory fête and an offhanded comment turned into a lengthy discussion. Little by little, they got to know each other, and somehow, amidst snow and stone, love bloomed. The two are married, and recently welcomed their first child, a son.

addenda
Cid frequently spent time in and around Gelmorran ruins as a child, even when these posed a danger to him. He is more comfortable underground than above, more comfortable within the forest than without.Due to his familiarity with the dead and dying from his childhood in destitution in the cellars and catacombs, he undertakes his duties as a Scion to cull the tempered with solemn resolve. He will often wash and prepare the bodies of the slain for burial afterward.Because he spent all his young life in the Black Shroud, he venerates the elementals and follows procedures to limit and expunge woodsin even outside the Shroud. Hearing Hydaelyn's voice, he at first thought Her to be an especially strong elemental. For years, Cid viewed himself as a vessel, an instrument of forces greater than himself: first the elementals, then Hydaelyn. His own desires and feelings have always come second to the will of these forces.Revelations of his true nature at the end of Shadowbringers have shaken him to his very core.
Cid's canon job/class is white mage. After Heavensward, he spent some time as a dark knight before returning to conjury, but in general, he will not talk about those times, which coincide roughly with the liberation of Ala Mhigo.Of late, he has spent more time running a small cafe than tending to his duties as a Hearer of the White, and has earned some small acclaim as a humble culinarian.
roleplaying
Cid is conservative. He prefers a cautious approach and would rather leave nothing to chance. He dresses conservatively as well, hiding much of his body from view.Cid has something of a sweet tooth: he grew to enjoy high tea during his time in Ishgard, so an offering of sweets or cakes can get his attention. He enjoys tea the most, but will drink lemonade on occasion. He tends to stay at a physical distance from others, and only tolerates physical touch from those he's close to.Cid can appear lost in thought, having a difficult time quieting the elementals enough to have his own conversations. When the hum of voices clears, he is soft-spoken and direct, with an occasional sparkle of wry wit. His accent is a blend of Gridanian and Ala Mhigan, similar to a faint Swiss accent. He is something of a miser, although he is generous with orphanages and other Duskwights. When he has time for them, his hobbies include carpentry and immersing himself in charitable works. When inebriated, he becomes more chatty and more expressive, although he doesn't raise his voice. He will be more physically affectionate. He drops his defenses and his passive nature becomes even more pronounced. Knowing this about himself, he doesn't drink alcohol around people he doesn't know or trust.
Cid is the canon Warrior of Light, and will work best with other characters who are not Warriors. He does not like being called by the title 'Warrior of Light', and jealously guards the knowledge of his power. I only operate as the Warrior of Light for close friends or people who have a history of writing with me, and only after an expository storyline where he is revealed as such. You are far more likely to encounter him as a simple cook.As usual, RP is not IRL; storylines where Cid appears to be upset or fighting have usually been discussed with other players beforehand.I am picky about who I accept friend requests from. Please understand.
